It has long been an understanding of the Presbyterian Church that all members are ministers of the church. It is a part of our tradition that all people are invited to participate in the worship service. One particular way is to be the "lay reader." Being a reader is a sacred and important part of the worship service. You are the lay person leading the congregation during the Sunday worship service in the "Prayer of Confession" and you are also responsible for reading two Bible passages and praying the "Prayer of Dedication" when the offering is received. Many people find participating in the service in this way is a special way to experience worship.
